Lawton Precepts was developed as a central location to lead and instruct people in the inductive method of biblical studies. We feel that the inductive method is one of the best ways to study the bible, because of its investigative techniques, as well as its dependency on the Holy Spirit to be our “Teacher”. We conduct our bible studies, both as small groups or individually, using a three-step process: Observation, Interpretation, and Application. Through Observation we investigate every aspect of a passage, topic, or book of the bible, from who wrote what to instances of time, history, and social impact, even delving into the Hebrew or Greek as needed. Once we’ve completed Observation, we then consider what the correct Interpretation of the passage is. Although many people believe and even teach that the bible has many different interpretations, there is truly only one correct Interpretation for any given passage of scripture. Finally, once we have done our Observation and have come to a correct Interpretation, then we will know how to properly apply the Word to our lives, known as Application. There is absolutely no reason to study the bible thoroughly unless one is ready to be obedient and apply what you have learned to your life. That’s what we’re truly all about… being obedient to God’s Word, or, as Christ Himself taught in John 15, to “abide” in Him!

It takes time and it takes good resources. You will find those resources available here, either directly on our site, or through our selected links. We have over 700 mb of reference materials in our Digital Library; you can discuss what you have learned, or care to share on our Discussion Forums where you will meet some wonderful people who love the Lord. You can also sign up for our monthly email newsletter which covers different aspects of inductive studies, as well as information on new resources available. We also provide excellent study tools, a complete online Bible Atlas, studies and sermons from some of the leading teachers in Christianity, both past and present.
